340 or 400 Spine?
« on: August 18, 2017, 11:08:11 PM »
According to the GT chart I'm right in between 340 and 400 spine. I shoot 400 spine now and they seem ok. My max shooting range is 40 yds due to eye sight. My arrows are 26.5", draw weight @ 70# and using 125gr broadheads. At my short ranges will it make much of a difference to go with 340? Any thoughts would be great before I drop $70-90 on a half dozen arrows.

Sounds like you're pushing a 400 about as far as you can but if it groups broadhead then what the hey.
I shoot 27" 340 at 65# 100 grain heads and there about perfect.
I'm not sure.

I shot for many years with 27" goldtips at 67 pounds but back then I was shooting light broadheads.  I switch this year to a 350 black eagle carnivore and have them loaded up with 42 grain brass inserts and a 125 grain rival from radical archery design.  My foc comes out at 16.6 %.

Ling, I would probably be shooting 340s with your setup.  Whenever you're on the line between XXX and XXX spine, its always better to opt for the heavier.  Heavier, stiffer arrows result in more KE and well, they're just plain tougher when blasting into a rib (or two).  Just my thoughts.

:yeah:
I would go with the 340s.
You won't notice much difference. However, with early season so close I would be very hesitant to make any changes to my set-up.
But, if you are right on the border line between the two I would always go with the size up option.
One look at the photos of a shattered arrow through someones forward hand is all the convincing I'll ever need.

Good thing I wasn't chewing gum too.  :chuckle:
Looks like Lingcod made his decision anyway.
